Feeling in a slump or stuck in bad habits? I started drinking Lemon Water in the morning and this is what happened…
This all started because I had no energy, drive, motivation to even get my day started. I’ve been waking up in the morning and just laying in my bed. It may be that “seasonal depression” but the cold and dark morning are completely draining lately.
I really wanted to adjust my morning so that I had some kind of routine in place that would get me feeling more structured, awake and ready to take on the day. I’m actually a project manager in the corporate world so my life does tend to revolve around routine, organization, etc.
So, I set up a morning routine that has me feeling eager to get up and start my day being productive. Typically, I get up and make a coffee and dread the morning rush to get ready, out the door and leaving a mess behind to deal with later when I get home from work…AKA immediately creating a space that leads me to come home in a bad mood.
So, I decided to create a morning routine implementing small habits to help reach goals that lead to better life quality and big picture achievements.
NEW MORNING ROUTINE(Work Week):
- Wake up between 6:30-7am
- Drink Lemon water* (replacing coffee first thing)
- Read (10-15 minutes to feel more awake)
- Stretch or Pilates for 10-20 minutes
- Shower, brush teeth, get dressed for the day
- Hair and makeup or skin care
- Check phone/emails
- Pack lunch
- START THE DAY
Everything on this list is pretty typical but the new habit for me is adding in the lemon water. I definitely do feel good starting the day with hydration and on a healthy note first thing.
To make the lemon water I either squeeze fresh lemon juice or cut a slice and add it into the water.
Don’t get me wrong I still need/love my coffee but I’m having it later in the morning vs. very first thing. I’ll bring it on the go or grab one on the way to work.
The lemon water helps with instant hydration after sleeping for hours. I also felt less bloated and tired in the morning.

I highly recommend trying this in the morning or even having it hot. Since the colder months have kicked in I sometimes prefer a warm drink an tea sometimes makes me feel nauseous.. I found that adding a lemon to warm water helps me to wind down and feel more relaxed.
Lemon water is now a staple in my routine. I feel lighter and healthier in my morning and finally out of a slump. Hydration and morning movement is my conclusion on helping feel your best.
